Short answer: we do not integrate with Square. Run both.

Dog Grooming Software Compatible With Square

Updated

In short

GroomBoard does not integrate with Square. There is no data connection between the two. Most groomers who ask this question end up running both anyway: Square takes the card at pickup on the reader they already own, and GroomBoard holds the appointment book, the pet records and the reminder texts. GroomBoard is not a point of sale and will not replace your reader. Square Appointments is free at entry, and it has no field for a coat, a blade length, or a bite history.

This page exists because groomers search for it and get a straight answer nowhere. Here is ours, including the part that does not favour us.

They Do Two Different Jobs

Square is a payments company with a calendar attached. GroomBoard is grooming software with no card reader. That is the whole difference, and it is why running both is a reasonable answer rather than a cop out.

Square takes the money

A reader, Tap to Pay on your phone, next day transfers, and a receipt. GroomBoard has none of that and is not trying to. Keep Square for the counter.

GroomBoard knows the dog

Breed, coat condition, the blade you used last time, the shampoo that worked, vaccination expiry, bite risk and handling notes, before and after photos. Square stores a customer, not an animal.

One price, not per location

Square Plus is $49 a month per location. GroomBoard is $9 to $39 a month flat, month to month, with locations included and uncapped SMS reminders on every paid plan.

Which One Fits You?

Square Appointments alone is enough if…

  • • You are solo and your whole book fits in a calendar
  • • You already remember every dog without writing it down
  • • You want one bill and one login, and free matters most
  • • Your clients are people first and pets second, for example a mobile nail trim round

Square Free costs nothing and includes booking and reminders. Nothing we sell beats free when free covers the job.

Add GroomBoard alongside Square if…

  • • You are keeping pet notes on paper or in your head
  • • One owner brings three dogs and the calendar cannot express that
  • • You price by weight or coat rather than by a flat service
  • • You need a bite history that a new groomer will actually see
  • • You are on Square Plus at $49 a month per location mainly for the booking features

Starter is $9/mo and includes the AI import that reads your paper book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does GroomBoard integrate with Square?
No. There is no Square integration, and we are not going to imply otherwise. GroomBoard does not read your Square transactions, does not push appointments into Square, and does not settle payments through a Square account. If a live Square connection is a hard requirement for you, GroomBoard is not the right tool and you should look at software that lists Square as a supported integration.
So can I use GroomBoard and Square together?
Yes, and this is how most of our groomers already work. Square takes the card at pickup on the reader you already own. GroomBoard holds the appointment book, the pet records, the public booking page, and the reminder texts. The honest cost of running both is that the money side lives in Square and the grooming side lives in GroomBoard, so your revenue reporting sits in Square rather than in one combined view.
How much does Square Appointments cost?
Checked on Square's own pricing page on 31 August 2026: Square Free is $0 a month per location, Square Plus is $49 a month per location, and Square Premium is $149 a month per location, with custom pricing above $250,000 processed a year. Processing runs 2.6% plus 15 cents tapped, dipped or swiped on the free plan, falling to 2.5% on Plus and 2.4% on Premium. Online is 3.3% plus 30 cents on Free and 2.9% plus 30 cents on the paid tiers. Square changes plans periodically, so confirm the current numbers on squareup.com before you decide.
Why would I pay for GroomBoard when Square Appointments is free?
You might not need to. Square Free genuinely includes online booking, appointment reminders and unlimited staff calendars, and it takes payment. If a calendar plus a card reader covers your business, that is a good setup and it costs nothing. The gap shows up in what Square stores about the animal. Square books a service to a customer. It has no field for the breed, the coat condition, the blade length you used last time, the shampoo that did not irritate the skin, the vaccination expiry, or the note that this dog has bitten before. Groomers end up keeping that in a paper book or their head, which is the thing GroomBoard is actually for.
Does GroomBoard replace my card reader?
No. GroomBoard is not a point of sale system and has no card reader, no Tap to Pay, and no in person card processing. You still need Square or something like it at pickup. What GroomBoard does have is a booking deposit and a texted payment link for a no show fee, both through Stripe, which is a different job from ringing up a groom at the counter.
I book everything through Square right now. Is moving a hassle?
You do not have to move the payments at all, which is the part that would be a hassle. Export your client list from Square as CSV and we will import it during your free trial. If some of your pet notes are still on paper, the photo import reads pages of an appointment book and enters them for you. Most groomers finish the client import in under 30 minutes and keep taking cards on Square exactly as before.

Keep Square. Try the other half.

7 days free, no credit card, and nothing to change about how you take payment. If the pet records and the reminders do not earn their keep, stay on Square alone.
