PET GROOMING CONSENT & LIABILITY RELEASE

By signing below, I (the pet owner or authorized agent) request grooming services from [Your Business Name] and agree to the following:

1. CONSENT TO GROOM. I authorize the groomer to perform the agreed grooming services on my pet, using their professional judgment for my pet’s safety and comfort.

2. MATTING & DE-MATTING. I understand that matted hair can hide skin conditions and that de-matting may cause discomfort. If my pet is matted, I authorize the groomer to use their professional judgment, including a shave-down, to remove matting humanely. I understand that nicks, clipper irritation, or pre-existing skin issues may be revealed during this process, and I release the groomer from liability for such conditions. A matting fee may apply.

3. PET BEHAVIOR & HANDLING. I have disclosed any history of biting, aggression, anxiety, or sensitivity. I understand that a muzzle or other humane restraint may be used when necessary for the safety of my pet and the groomer. If my pet becomes too stressed or aggressive to groom safely, the appointment may be stopped and a fee charged for time spent.

4. SENIOR & SPECIAL-NEEDS PETS. I understand that grooming can be stressful for senior, very young, pregnant, or health-compromised pets, and that grooming may expose (but does not cause) pre-existing conditions. I confirm my pet is fit to be groomed and have disclosed any medical conditions. I accept the inherent risks of grooming a special-needs pet.

5. ACCIDENTS & EMERGENCY CARE. Grooming involves sharp tools on a moving animal, and occasional nicks or stress reactions can occur despite every precaution. In the event of an emergency, I authorize the groomer to seek veterinary care on my behalf, and I agree to be responsible for any resulting veterinary costs.

6. PAYMENT. I agree that payment in full is due at the time of pickup.

I have read and understood this agreement and confirm that the information I have provided about my pet is accurate.

Why every groomer needs a waiver

A grooming consent and liability release does three things: it documents that the client authorized the service, it sets clear expectations about risks (especially with matting, senior pets, and anxious dogs), and it can give you valuable protection if a dispute ever arises. New groomers skip it because it feels unnecessary — right up until the moment it becomes essential.

The most important clauses are a matting / shave-down release, a behavior and muzzle acknowledgment, and an emergency veterinary care authorization. Pair your waiver with a clear intake form and cancellation policy. We have ready-made guides for all three: a new client intake form template, a cancellation policy template, and a no-show policy guide.
