Dog Grooming SEO: The Keywords Your Clients Actually Search (With Real Numbers)

GroomBoard Team·· 5 min read

Most grooming clients find a groomer the same way: they pick up their phone and type something like "dog groomer near me." Knowing exactly what they type, and how often, tells you where to spend your marketing time. Below are real US search volumes for dog grooming keywords, pulled from Ahrefs Keywords Explorer in October 2026, grouped by what the searcher wants, with the place each group belongs.

Volumes are average monthly searches in the United States. They are estimates, so treat them as a guide to size, not exact counts.

1. Near Me Searches: The Biggest Keywords by Far

KeywordUS searches per month
dog groomers near me54,000
pet groomer near me49,000
dog groomer near me29,000
mobile groomer near me9,300
cat groomers near me7,500
mobile dog groomers near me4,700
best dog groomer near me2,400
mobile pet groomers near me1,700
best dog groomers near me1,400
groomers near me for dogs1,200

Here is the important part: Google answers almost every one of these with a map and three local listings before any website appears. Those listings come from Google Business Profiles. So for the biggest grooming keywords, your profile is your SEO. Ranking in that map pack depends mostly on three things: how relevant your profile is to the search, how close you are to the searcher, and how prominent your business looks (reviews, photos, activity). You cannot move closer to every searcher, but you control the other two.

What to do: set "Pet groomer" as your primary category, list every service you offer, set accurate hours and a service area if you are mobile, add real photos of your work regularly, and ask every happy client for a review. Our guides to Google Business Profile for groomers and getting more Google reviews walk through each step.

2. Service and Specialty Searches

Clients who know what they need search for it. These are smaller, but they are much easier to win, and the people typing them are ready to book:

KeywordUS searches per month
cat groomer6,000
mobile dog groomer3,700
mobile groomer3,100
mobile cat groomer450
doodle groomers near me350
large dog groomers near me250
puppy groomers near me250
poodle groomers near me250
groomers that come to your house200
walk in groomers near me200
husky groomers near me150
golden doodle groomers near me150

If you specialize, say so everywhere. A groomer who loves doodles, takes cats, handles giant breeds or comes to the house should put that in the profile description, in the services list, and on its own page on the website. "Cat groomer" alone gets 6,000 searches a month and far fewer groomers compete for it than for "dog groomer."

3. Price Searches

KeywordUS searches per month
dog groomers near me prices500
dog groomers prices near me400
cheap groomers near me400
mobile dog groomers near me prices300
how much does a dog groomer cost150
how much do mobile dog groomers charge70

People want to know the price before they call. A salon that shows starting prices, even as "from $65 for a small dog," gives these searchers what they came for. If your prices depend on size and coat, a simple table by size is still better than "call for a quote," which sends many of them to the next listing.

4. City Searches

Plenty of clients type the city instead of "near me," especially when they are searching for somewhere they are moving to or for a parent's dog. Examples from the same data: "dog groomers albuquerque" and "dog groomers lubbock" at about 250 searches a month each, and "dog groomers tulsa" at about 200. Your town has its own version of these. Put your city, and the neighborhoods or nearby towns you actually serve, in your page titles and service pages, written the way a person would say it.

Where Each Keyword Belongs

PlaceWhat to put there
Google Business ProfilePrimary category "Pet groomer," every service in the services list, specialties and town in the description, real photos, a booking link
Website home page titleYour business name, what you do and your town, for example "Thistle & Tumble Grooming | Dog and Cat Grooming in Springfield"
Service pagesOne page per main service or specialty: mobile grooming, cat grooming, doodle grooming, puppy grooming, each mentioning your area
Prices pageStarting prices by size or service, and what is included
Photo captions and postsPlain descriptions: "goldendoodle teddy bear cut," "matted cat lion cut"

Write for people, not for Google. Repeating "dog groomer near me" ten times on a page does not help and reads badly. Mention each idea where it naturally fits.

Mistakes That Cost Groomers Rankings

  • Stuffing keywords into the business name. Changing your profile name to "Best Dog Groomer Denver Mobile" breaks Google's guidelines and can get the listing suspended. Use your real name. Our grooming business names guide covers choosing one.
  • Different details everywhere. If your phone number or address differs between your profile, website and Facebook page, Google trusts all of them less.
  • No way to book from the search result. A searcher who has to call during business hours often moves on. A booking link on your profile and website catches them at 10 PM.
  • Paying for SEO you do not need. For most one to three groomer shops, a complete profile, steady reviews and a simple website do almost all of it. Our guide to building a grooming website covers the basics.

Turn Searches Into Bookings

Ranking is only half of it. The other half is what happens when someone taps your listing at night or on a lunch break. GroomBoard gives every salon an online booking page you can link from your Google Business Profile and website, showing your services and your real open times, with automatic text confirmations once the client books. Frequently Asked Questions

What keywords should a dog grooming business use?

Start with what clients type: "dog groomer," "pet groomer" and "dog grooming," each with your city or neighborhood. Then add your services and specialties, such as mobile dog grooming, cat grooming, doodle grooming, puppy grooming or large dog grooming. Price questions like "how much does a dog groomer cost" are also searched often. Use these naturally in your Google Business Profile, page titles and service descriptions.

What is the most searched dog grooming keyword?

In the US, "dog groomers near me" is the biggest at about 54,000 searches a month, followed by "pet groomer near me" at about 49,000 and "dog groomer near me" at about 29,000, according to Ahrefs data from October 2026. Together with their variations, near me searches for groomers run well over 130,000 a month.

How do I rank for "dog groomer near me"?

Mostly through your Google Business Profile, because Google shows map listings for near me searches. Choose "Pet groomer" as your primary category, fill in your services, hours and service area, add real photos, and collect reviews steadily. Distance from the searcher matters too, which you cannot change. Your website helps by confirming your name, address, phone and services match your profile.

Do dog groomers need SEO?

Most local groomers need a little, not a lot. A complete Google Business Profile with steady reviews does most of the work, because that is what shows for near me searches. A simple website with a page for each service and your city helps you show up for searches like "mobile dog grooming" plus your town. Paying an agency for complex SEO rarely makes sense for a one or two groomer shop.

Should I put my city in my grooming business name for SEO?

Usually no. Google treats keyword stuffing in a business name on your profile as against its guidelines, and a name like "Best Dog Groomer Denver" can get your listing suspended. Use your real business name and put the city and services in your profile categories, description, services list and website instead. Our business names guide covers naming in more detail.
